A Visit From Chaplain Jim

Three people in the grip of serious addiction, two dealing with heroin, one with alcohol.  All dealing also with HIV.  One is receiving methadone treatment at the hospital, hoping to transition to a residential facility where she can get the help and support needed to stay off the street and away from the cycle that has repeatedly drawn her in.  I listen and we talk about her strengths and weaknesses, what works for her, what works against her.  She wears a mask (I do too) but when she talks about her resilience her eyes smile in a beautiful way above the mask.  We talk about [...]

Not one, but TWO new Chaplains

Thanks to donor support and board member passion, we were able to double our capacity at Stroger this month We are thrilled to introduce you to Matt Seeds and Micheal Smith, our two new chaplains at Stroger Hospital. Matt and Micheal started this week and they will be providing more coverage in the Cook County Hospital Trauma and Critical Care Units than ever before offered. Campaign Kicks Off at The Art of Healing

  On May 6th we officially kicked our Campaign for the Next 70 Years.  At The Art of Healing benefit, Executive Director Tommy Rogers proclaimed that  Bishop Anderson House has set a goal of raising $1.75 million over the next 3 years--and generous donors have already pledged $600,000. We are building a financial base to ensure that we can provide Chaplaincy, Education and Spirituality and Wellness through the end of this century. Calumet Ministry Partnership Sponsors Seven New Spiritual Care Training Graduates

We did it! This fall Bishop Anderson House hosted two concurrent sessions of Spiritual Care Visitor Training in both Illinois and Indiana. The Calumet Ministry Partnership provided the resources for a group that meet for 10 weeks at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Munster, Indiana. Many thanks to the Partnership for the solid financial backing that made our journey to Indiana possible. Rush Announces New Mission Statement

Rush Hospital is striving to improve the health needs of the neighborhoods it serves, as made evident in their new mission statement: “improving the health of individuals and communities we serve." By expanding their vision outward towards the community Rush is expanding their impact.
